Christian dating in Australia comes with its own challenge: distance. Jasmine lived in New South Wales. Josh lived in Victoria. Neither of them was keen on online dating, but they decided it was worth a try. Jasmine was about to take a break from SALT when they matched. They married in April 2025.
Jasmine wrote to us to share their story. Here it is in her own words.
TL;DR: Jasmine (NSW) and Josh (VIC) matched on SALT just as Jasmine was thinking of taking a break. Great texting led to a three-hour phone call, then a first date. After a largely long-distance relationship, they married in April 2025.
Jasmine and Josh’s story, in their words
Hi guys!
I thought it was about time I wrote to thank you and let you know that my wonderful husband, Josh, and I both met each other through your app! Both of us had experienced prolonged seasons of singleness, and though neither of us was keen on online dating, we thought it was worth a shot. I had been on your app for about a month and was just getting ready to give it a break, when Josh and I matched. We had the best texting conversations, which led to a three-hour first phone call, which turned into a date, and the rest is now history! He was from VIC, Australia, and I was NSW, so our relationship was largely long distance, but early on I was sure I’d be moving to Victoria in the not-too-distant future. We were married in April 2025, and couldn’t be happier.
I never thought I would find a man with whom I had so much in common, especially one who put God first in all his life. As we think back on our histories and networks, we saw a few brief “almosts” where we might have met elsewhere, but those chances were exceptionally slim. We are so thankful that you crafted such an intentional app that is fun to use, and that we got to experience the story we have now because of you! Thanks for heeding the call and giving us singles another opportunity for God to help us find each other.
Rich blessings,
Jasmine & Josh
What we love about Jasmine and Josh’s story
Plenty of single Christians feel unsure about online dating. Jasmine and Josh did too. They gave it a go anyway, with open hands and a willingness to see what God might do.
Their story also shows how connection can grow step by step. Good messages led to a long phone call. The phone call led to a date. And that date led to a marriage built on a shared faith.
In short: Jasmine and Josh took a chance on something new, and let their connection grow one step at a time.
Distance didn’t stop them either. Living in different states meant a largely long-distance relationship. But with God at the centre, they built something that lasted. If you’re navigating Christian dating in Australia, our guide to long-distance Christian relationships has practical advice.
In short: Long distance can work when both people are committed and keep God at the centre.
Jasmine and Josh, thank you for sharing your story. We’re so glad your paths crossed on SALT, and we’re praying for you both as you build your life together. Congratulations!
