Ezra and Benita’s first date was meant to be a quick coffee. Five hours later they were still together. Here’s their SALT story — and what it teaches us about Christian dating first dates.

Christian Dating First Date Tips – Straight From a Successful SALT Couple

Some first dates are polite. Some are promising. And some — like Ezra and Benita’s — last five hours and change everything. The couple matched on SALT in January 2023, married in May, and haven’t looked back since. Here’s their story — and what it tells us about showing up fully on a first date.

Ezra and Benita’s Story

We would like to thank you guys at SALT for facilitating the space for me and my wife to meet. My wife Benita and I matched on January 11th 2023 and we were talking like we had known each other for so long.

We went on a date a month later which was meant to be just a coffee but we ended up spending 5 hours with each other and went for a walk around the neighbourhood. And I knew from that moment that I have met the woman of my dreams.

We got married on the 22nd and the 23rd of May. And we thank God for everything that he has done in our lives throughout our time together and we know that He will guide us and bless us in the rest of our days.

“I knew from that moment that I have met the woman of my dreams.”

Ezra and Benita’s first date had no agenda beyond a cup of coffee. That’s probably why it worked. The best Christian dating first dates tend to be low pressure, open-ended, and rooted in genuine curiosity about the other person — exactly the kind of environment where five hours can disappear without anyone noticing. If you’re heading into a first date with someone you’ve met on SALT, take a leaf out of Ezra and Benita’s book: keep it simple, stay present, and leave room for God to surprise you.
