Should you hide your &#8216;weird&#8217; in the early stages?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cShould you hide your weird quirks early on?&nbsp; Hmmm\u2026depends on how weird\u2026.lol\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Jack, SALT Social<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quirky-date-imagine-with-me\">Quirky date: Imagine with me&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMummy, do you think unicorns are real?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tristen glanced over as he turned over the sample bottle of Hugo Boss cologne.&nbsp; The fluorescent lights and crying children in Boots wasn\u2019t exactly putting him at ease for his upcoming SALT date, but he wasn\u2019t going to try and meet his potential future wife by smelling like a dirty shoe, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s natural to be guarded until we get to know someone, but I don\u2019t think we should actively suppress who we are either, that\u2019s like wearing a mask.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Bailey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mother snapped back at her daughter.&nbsp; \u201cNo, honey, of course not.&nbsp; Horses don\u2019t have horns, unicorns are just from fairy tales.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The girl seemed frustrated.&nbsp; \u201cBut narwhals are real, and they\u2019re just whales with horns\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tristen handled a few more bottles before finding the perfect scent that he felt communicated \u201cdown to earth yet interesting\u201d, then sprayed it on his wrists, shirt, and behind his back for good measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He trailed the mother and her child through the store, skipping the checkout line and walking out the door into the open air.&nbsp; Don\u2019t need to buy cologne for just one date when you can just hit the samples!&nbsp; He was excited to meet her and wanted to make a good first impression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Narwhals, huh?<\/em>&nbsp; Tristen thought as he walked down the street to his date.&nbsp; <em>I guess if I didn\u2019t know what they were, I would assume they were mythological creatures too.&nbsp; I wonder if our future kids will say stuff like that.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-to-the-date\">To the date&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He approached the Starbucks, expecting to find his date inside, but there she was, dressed to the nines, sitting at the outside table.&nbsp; She was gorgeous &#8211; blonde, sundress, big blue eyes, infectious smile beaming as he approached\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWow!\u201d Tristen said.&nbsp; \u201cYou\u2019re even hotter than your pictures!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jasmine\u2019s smile faded a little as she gave him a hug, suppressing a cough from the cologne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI believe you should be as real &amp; authentic as possible. If they like that, awesome! If they think you&#8217;re \u2018too weird\u2019 or \u2018crazy\u2019, then it&#8217;s their loss.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Juan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat are you doing out here?&nbsp; Let\u2019s get a coffee,\u201d Tristen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She nodded in agreement as he went in first, making her open the door for herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside they queued together, exchanging glances more than words.&nbsp; The queue got shorter and eventually she spoke up, \u201cSo what do you usually get here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOh, I don\u2019t usually go for Starbucks.&nbsp; I usually go local.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She furrowed her brow.&nbsp; \u201cOh really?&nbsp; We don\u2019t have to stay here, it\u2019s okay\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo, no, it\u2019s fine, just being honest,\u201d he said.&nbsp; Scrambling, he asked \u201cwhat about you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI like Starbucks but yeah local is great too\u2026\u201d&nbsp; Tristen could tell she was lying.&nbsp; Great start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it was their turn, he ordered but didn\u2019t ask what she wanted and paid for only his drink.&nbsp; She looked bewildered, but stepped up afterward and ordered herself.&nbsp; Tristen stepped back and just watched her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cFront-load the quirks. What a rude question. \u201cI told you already, didn\u2019t I?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You could tell that Jasmine had had enough.&nbsp; \u201cI don\u2019t know\u2026 honestly Tristen I got all dressed up to meet you because I thought we were really hitting it off, and just in the last five minutes you\u2019ve been really horrible to me!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tristen\u2019s eyes went wide.&nbsp; \u201cHorrible?&nbsp; What are you talking about?\u201d<br><br>\u201cYou didn\u2019t open the door, you didn\u2019t offer to pay, you\u2019re being combative, you\u2019re ignoring me\u2026 I\u2019m glad we met up honestly, because otherwise I would have kept wasting my time talking to you.\u201d&nbsp; She stood up to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhoah wait, hold on\u2026 crap, I\u2019m sorry.\u201d&nbsp; She paused and looked back for the last time.&nbsp; \u201cI\u2019m an idiot.&nbsp; I was following some advice I saw online about just being myself, and not trying to impress you.&nbsp; So I thought this was the best way to spark a genuine connection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYourself, huh?&nbsp; Well maybe you should try being a better person next time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>And with that, she was gone, leaving Tristen in a pool of his own regret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cTrying to get a specific outcome by trying to be too \u2018genuine\u2019 is never the right answer.&nbsp; Balance with what comes naturally from you, from a loving place, and actually care about the other person.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Becka<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOverthinking just pushed my crushes away&#8230; just my luck.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Natalie<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quirky-date-what-do-you-think\">Quirky Date: What do you think?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you head into a date masking who you really are?
