Not because anything was wrong with the apps, but I was on there for the wrong reasons. I was getting desperate as opposed to using the app as a tool to simply meet and make connections. Let that be a lesson to you. Ask yourself why you&#8217;re on the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you live in a small town or the dating scene you\u2019re in has limited options, there\u2019s nothing wrong with expanding your reach on an app. However, if you&#8217;re going on there with the \u201cthis is my last chance\u201d energy, I would encourage you to check your motives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-horror-stories\">The horror stories<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I recall a play that was based on a woman in her forties who allowed her friend to set her up on a dating app. Things seemed fine at first, but unfortunately she allowed her emotions to get swept in a romance with this one man who ended up convincing her to marry him after only dating for one month. He turned the tables on her by emptying her bank account and even threatening to take her house. She had over $300,000 in her savings and it was gone once she married this man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the play you could tell she was lonely. While she was happy for her younger sister\u2019s marriage, it didn\u2019t help the fact that she was willing to ignore the red flags and marry a man she hardly knew simply because he had charmed her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This doesn\u2019t mean though that God can\u2019t work through dating apps and bring men and women together. I\u2019ve heard countless testimonies of marriages that started with a message on an app. If God is leading you in that direction, go for it. If not, trust that He can show you your spouse in other ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you&#8217;re on them and you&#8217;re happy before God about your motives, let&#8217;s look at how to spot genuine Christian on dating apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-look-past-the-scripture-quotes\">1. It feels like a person who has character\u2014not just Christian phrases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why you don\u2019t have to fear taking your time. Anyone who is real will respect your pace. Anyone who is pretending will grow impatient. Most men say they love Jesus, but are willing to compromise on having sex prior to marriage. I didn\u2019t need any more information to realize it wasn\u2019t going to work out. If they are clearly going against something in God\u2019s Word and are okay with it, you have every right to walk away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s nothing wrong with saying, \u201cI pray you find what you\u2019re looking for, but we\u2019re not on the same page. This is extremely important to me and I can\u2019t compromise.\u201d Do you risk starting over again? Yes, and that\u2019s where a lot of Christian singles mess up. They don\u2019t want to start over again, especially as they deal with the fear of getting older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-god-is-sovereign\">God is sovereign<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to remind you that God holds time in His hand. He knows how to redeem it. He knows how old you are. Don\u2019t regret obeying Him simply for the sake of having someone who clearly goes against your boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boundaries aren\u2019t just about purity\u2014they\u2019re about peace. They\u2019re about making sure your heart stays whole and your walk with God stays intact. A person who genuinely loves the Lord won\u2019t treat your boundaries like obstacles.
