It\u2019s not the end of the road just because they walked away. As Christians, we need to stop putting so much pressure on another person to fulfill us. God created relationships so we could co-labor with one another\u2014not become so dependent that we lose sight of who He created us to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re in the middle of an identity crisis, or you know you tend to become overly dependent in relationships, take time to heal. Spend time with the Lord and let Him restore you first\u2014so your next relationship isn\u2019t built on brokenness, but wholeness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-don-t-assume-commitment-early\">Don\u2019t Assume Commitment Early<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just because you\u2019ve gone out a few times doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re exclusive\u2014and that\u2019s okay. God revealed it to me over time. If I had rushed the process, I might have wrongly assumed, \u201cMaybe this isn\u2019t it\u2014I\u2019m not feeling anything.\u201d While feelings matter, they are not meant to lead us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may have heard of the 90-day rule, but don\u2019t turn it into a rigid standard either. Again, God may reveal things early, but the point is to take your time. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, so don\u2019t make a lifelong decision without enough data. The problem is, impatience makes us fearful\u2014especially if we feel like we\u2019re running out of time. But this is a flawed mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve never heard anyone say, \u201cI took too long getting to know them.\u201d More often, it\u2019s the opposite: \u201cWe rushed into it. We should\u2019ve taken more time.\u201d That doesn\u2019t mean you need to date for 10 years\u2014and unless there are special circumstances, it probably shouldn\u2019t take that long either. Ask about values, lifestyle, faith, and long-term vision. It\u2019s not interrogation\u2014it\u2019s wisdom. A man or woman with serious intentions won\u2019t be put off by your intentionality. Shallow flirters, on the other hand, will fall off quickly (and that\u2019s a blessing). You\u2019re not auditioning to be chosen\u2014you\u2019re evaluating, too. Don\u2019t quiet your discernment just to seem agreeable. You have every right to know what you\u2019re walking into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, you don\u2019t need to ask everything on the first date. I once saw a video about a woman who pulled out a two-page list of questions during her first date. The man was so overwhelmed that he ended the date early. While it\u2019s perfectly okay to ask questions, let them come up naturally as you get to know each other. You don\u2019t have to hear someone\u2019s full testimony on day one. Maybe ask that a few weeks in, or when a deeper connection has been established. It\u2019s not about following a rigid timeline\u2014it\u2019s about letting things unfold organically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-no-rigid-timeline\">No rigid timeline<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too many Christian singles cling to a timeline out of fear. But every relationship is different because every person is different. The way the couple next door met and married won\u2019t mirror your story. The journey of your youth pastor and his wife isn\u2019t meant to be yours. So can we allow the Lord to unfold our story the way He already wrote it\u2014and trust His plan?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know it\u2019s not easy. I remember wondering if the man I was talking to was \u201cthe one.\u201d But I can tell you: it\u2019s worth it to take your time and follow the Lord\u2019s lead. Be yourself, knowing the right person will see your worth. So yes\u2014ask questions for clarity, but not from a place of fear. Ask from a place of confidence and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-involve-god-early-on\">Involve God Early On<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask God to reveal what you might be missing. Bring your doubts to Him, even if they feel small. The Holy Spirit is your best relationship counselor. Dating becomes less stressful when you know God is leading you. You don\u2019t have to figure it all out alone. Make seeking Him a habit now, not just when things get serious\u2014you\u2019ll avoid a lot of unnecessary heartache.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This doesn\u2019t mean praying, \u201cGod, let them say XYZ so I know they\u2019re my spouse.\u201d Don\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/nrb.ttm.mybluehost.me\/over-spiritualize-dating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rely solely on signs or specific confirmations<\/a>. Instead, ask the Lord to open your eyes so you can see the person clearly over time. Will you always get it right? No. But God responds to faith. When you choose to date in faith, He will guide you\u2014either by confirming that someone is right for you, or by showing you they\u2019re not. Don\u2019t be discouraged if it\u2019s the latter. God\u2019s protection is just as loving as His provision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many Christian singles either deny what God has already revealed or try to change the person they\u2019re dating. Others follow their emotions and ignore the nudges of the Holy Spirit. But God knows you better than you know yourself, and He always has your best interest at heart. For some, the deeper struggle is trust. After waiting so long, it\u2019s easy to believe the lie that God has forgotten you. It can feel like everyone else is getting what they want, while you\u2019ve been overlooked. But that\u2019s not the truth. God hasn\u2019t forgotten you\u2014and He never will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-trust-what-god-reveals\">Trust What God Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it doesn\u2019t feel right, don\u2019t force it. If someone says one thing but lives another, believe the pattern. God isn\u2019t trying to tease you\u2014He\u2019s trying to protect you. Sometimes clarity comes through closed doors, not green lights. Your peace is often a stronger guide than your excitement. Let go when God shows you it\u2019s time. Trusting Him now prepares you for the kind of love that\u2019s truly worth keeping. His \u201cno\u201d is always wrapped in mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve shared this quote before, but I\u2019ll say it again: \u201cPeople lie, but patterns don\u2019t.\u201d You\u2019re not just marrying a spouse\u2014you\u2019re also accepting their habits and behaviors, both good and bad. If their pattern is not putting God first, that\u2019s what you\u2019ll inherit. If they struggle with anger, that pattern comes with them too. The truth may be difficult to face, especially when emotions are involved, but it all comes back to trusting God. Do you believe He has good things for you? Will you trust Him with your heart?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-my-story\">My story<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I remember the last man I talked to before meeting my husband. My feelings were strong, but the Lord was clear: stop talking to him. Within a year, I met my husband and we were married a year and four months later. Could it have worked with the previous man? Maybe\u2014but it wasn\u2019t God\u2019s best for me. I\u2019ll never regret obeying God\u2019s voice, especially now that I see His hand on our marriage. I\u2019ve witnessed Him provide for my husband and me in miraculous ways, simply because we strive to keep Him first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-let-s-conclude\">Let&#8217;s Conclude<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a difference between getting married and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.be-salt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">building a Kingdom marriage<\/a>. Anyone can get married\u2014you could meet a stranger on Craigslist and be legally bound by the weekend. But you\u2019re not looking for just anyone. You want God\u2019s best. That\u2019s why you\u2019re here. You\u2019ve chosen not to settle, and God will honor that. He sees your obedience. And while we don\u2019t obey just to be blessed, blessings often follow obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So take a deep breath on your next first date and just have fun. Enjoy getting to know the other person. God will make things clear in time.
