{"id":2907,"date":"2025-05-08T13:38:29","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T13:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nrb.ttm.mybluehost.me\/?p=2907"},"modified":"2025-05-08T13:38:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T13:38:35","slug":"the-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nrb.ttm.mybluehost.me\/the-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Do Christians Today Believe in &#8216;The One&#8217;?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this post, I&#8217;ve collated the opinions of Christians on SALT after we asked the question, &#8220;Do you believe in &#8216;The One&#8217;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-intro\">Intro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt is statistically unlikely for everyone to have their &#8216;\u2019one&#8217;\u2019. But for those who\u2019ve found theirs, blessed are they!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Chris from SALT Social<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before I was married, I felt like God showed me a vision of what my wife will be like.&nbsp; I\u2019ll meet her in England, she will have brown hair, be shy and quiet, and my love for her will grow over time.&nbsp; That\u2019s what I felt it was going to be, but I didn\u2019t really know how 100% that vision was, so I was open to anything God had for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that I\u2019ve been married for 3 years, I was reminiscing the other day about my wife.\u00a0 She\u2019s wonderful, she\u2019s beautiful, and I\u2019m so glad I married her, but I don\u2019t think I ever felt a sense of \u201cthis is the one\u201d, like she was the fulfillment of that fate.\u00a0 We <a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/websiteurl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">matched on SALT<\/a>, we immediately hit it off, and I lost interest in every other woman as soon as we started bantering back-and-forth.\u00a0 I guess you could call that fate, or God, or whatever, but to me it just felt like coming home to someone I felt safe with.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t some earth-shattering event, though, and I think because I grew up in a very spiritual and intense church, I\u2019ve doubted at times whether or not she was actually \u201cthe one\u201d for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-there-such-a-thing-as-the-one\">Is there such a thing as &#8216;the one&#8217;?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI think God can guide us to the right person, but I don&#8217;t think there is some concept like \u2018the one\u2019.&nbsp; It\u2019s better to just say \u2018God happened\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Susanna<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I don\u2019t even think it felt like that, at least not right away.&nbsp; It just felt like this woman is amazing and I wanna get to know her more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI believe God knows who&#8217;s the best person for you and will line you both up to meet each other if you both are letting Him lead you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Jewel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This sounds like salient advice also, but I don\u2019t think either of us were even really in an amazing place spiritually when we met (which also played into my doubts &#8211; did I meet the wrong person because I wasn\u2019t right with God and therefore I met someone who was outside of his will?&nbsp; Was this just a \u201ccarnal\u201d match?).&nbsp; Even now that I feel like I\u2019ve got my feet on the ground more spiritually, I don\u2019t regret marrying her at all.&nbsp; She\u2019s still the love of my life, my best friend, someone I would die for and someone I want to spend every day of my life with.&nbsp; So whether or not it was the \u201cright\u201d decision, it\u2019s a decision I\u2019m glad I made and wouldn\u2019t trade for anyone else.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So maybe it\u2019s not a fate thing &#8211; maybe we just have chance encounters and have to play the numbers game like everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-have-i-got-it-wrong\">Have I got it wrong?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI read something once that basically said if there was \u2018the one\u2019 and someone married someone who wasn\u2019t \u2018the one\u2019 then that means everyone else would end up marrying the wrong person.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Scott<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So surely it can\u2019t be that clear-cut because otherwise we\u2019d all be wandering forever, rejecting people who would be amazing for us because we don\u2019t\u2026I dunno, hear angels coming down when we look at them?&nbsp; Feel our hearts leap? Start levitating when we see their profile? It\u2019s not like that feels much different than just normal attraction anyway, we just spiritualize it and call it God\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOf course there are multiple compatible partners for each of us. If people didn&#8217;t have such high standards these days, there would be a lot less single people in my opinion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Aaron<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-our-choice\">Our choice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This resonates more with me because I could have ended up with various other women &#8211; people who would have been awesome in some ways and lacking in others, people who I would have been compatible with or not, people that could meet my needs and some who couldn\u2019t.&nbsp; Maybe the reason I find my wife so \u201cperfect\u201d is because I\u2019ve just learned to adapt to whoever was in front of me and made the choice every day to love her.&nbsp; Which is romantic in its own right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI think the one you end up marrying is the one. \u261d\ufe0f\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Liam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I\u2019ve grown so much as a person, too, since we\u2019ve met.&nbsp; I\u2019ve become more patient, more self-aware, less selfish, less cringe.&nbsp; Looking back, I don\u2019t even know who I was before I met her &#8211; and as someone who believes God is active in my life, there\u2019s no way he wasn\u2019t involved with that process to some degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI think the whole idea of \u2018the one\u2019 exists only in Hollywood romance movies.&nbsp; There is no such thing as living happily ever after &#8211; we should enter marriage knowing that this person is human and not perfect rather than looking for someone to complete us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Leonard<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet I <em>do<\/em> feel completed, in many ways, by being married to her.&nbsp; I feel like we\u2019re one unit, like we\u2019re\u2026 for lack of a better word, <em>made<\/em> for each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThere is &#8216;the one&#8217; out there, and you are \u2018the one\u2019 too for someone else!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Adekunle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-god-is-sovereign\">God is Sovereign<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At ministry school they used to describe God as \u201cJehovah sneaky\u201d &#8211; meaning we don\u2019t realize everything was happening according to His plan until we look back and reflect on the big picture of our lives.&nbsp; Maybe that\u2019s what this is, because when I think about the journey I went on, and how I managed to meet someone that is not only okay with my quirks and flaws, but actively enjoys me as a person (and I her!), it makes me realize how uncoincidental our encounter was.&nbsp; I think I\u2019ve changed my mind &#8211; it has to be God.&nbsp; Maybe even from the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh yeah, and she is quiet with brown hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI think the underlying question is, does God determine who we love or have we been given the ability to choose from our own hearts?
